All About Swine Flu- H1NIVirus
The latest health hazard to the human race is none other than the H1N1 Virus or Swine Flu. The World Health Organization or WHO warns that this disease is catching on fast, calling it a pandemic.
The Government authorities in United Kingdom have specifically designated a website and toll free contact number to this cause after 800 plus cases were reported throughout the nation. The Websites details helplines and other vital resources such as Swine Flu symptoms check questionnaire, precautionary actions and important numbers of health centers.
The first case of this deadly virus was reported in Mexico and some parts of United States, soon after the cases increased in number globally. Although masks to cover the mouth were distributed throughout Mexico, there is still no proven evidence that the widespread of this disease has halted.
The New Virus is highly contagious and spreads like wild fire from person to person similar to common flu. But unlike common cold which is usually dominant in winter, Swine Flu can be caught under any weather conditions. After being infected, it takes less than 2 days for the symptoms to start. Antiviral Drugs when administered within 48 hours of the flu, can relieve some of its symptoms, reduce the illness period and potential for serious complications. Depending on the severity of the flu, an individuals body temperature rises over 38C with coughs, sore throats and muscles aches engulfing the entire body.
Swine Flu or Influenza is a disease of the respiratory tract infecting pigs, who usually get infected with the ailment but rarely die from it. Only upon close contact with an infected individual or with the infected pigs, do human catch the deadly worrisome sickness.
People of all ages are at risk of infection and since the virus strain has not yet been identified, vaccines have not been produced to aid the infected. Apart from the normal and common symptoms of cold, headaches and a runny nose also accompany the ailments.
Prevention is better than cure and in order to reduce the risk of catching flu or passing it on, discard used tissues immediately and cover your mouth while coughing or sneezing. This way you are stopping the virus in its track and killing it by hurling it into the bin. If you are suffering, try resting and staying indoors, also take precautionary medicines like ibuprofen, paracetanol and aspirin, besides drinking plenty of fluids.Recovery from the ailment usually happens within a week however if severe complications like pnemonia develope, death is inevitable.
